About

Our History

Joy Nichols was an early leader in the Melbourne Charismatic Renewal having been to her first meeting in 1973. She led prayer meetings for many years and had extraordinary gifts of faith and healing. With her husband Bob, family and friends she established The Mountain of Praise in 1985. It was to be a place where people would gather to pray for the world. Joy had a vision that ‘our prayers would be like a fountain, as the praises go up to the Heavenly Court then the blessings would flow down and out to the world.’ Prayer and praising God for the world would minister to souls and bring blessings all around the world. Healings always happen when people reach out in love to pray for others. Joy and Bob had great faith and love for the Word of God and believed that God would provide. Nothing was ever borrowed, the Lord provided, and the House of Prayer was completed in 1991, a Grotto to Our Lady in 2001, Bethlehem retreat cottage purchased in 2002 and finally the pearl of great price, The Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels built and dedicated with a Mass on 2nd August 2006. Eleven days later Joy went home to be with the Lord and in 2012 Bob joined her in Heaven. Joy and Bob laid the foundations upon which we, her family and friends, continue the ministry of praying for the world and worshiping God through the Word and Sacrament.

“For it is only love that will change the world, not the wisdom of man. It is only love that heals, renews and makes whole.”
